Exgratia relief to stone pelters backfires to PDP-BJP
Jammu, January 11 (KIP):-The decision of Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti
to grant exgratia relief to the kins of those killed in pellet gun
fire and jobs in some specified cases to the victims' relatives seems
to have misfired.
It has deepened the wide between the BJP and the PDP because the
BJP is against granting exgratia relief to stone pelters and jobs to
the kins of the deceased. When the BJP had demanded exgratia relief to
those security personnel killed by militants the state Government had
said that under which rules these security personnel were entitled to
exgratia relief. And the top BJP leadership in Delhi has berated the
BJP ministers for having remained mute spectators to Mehbooba's
decision.
The BJP wants exgratia relief to all the civilians killed in
various parts of the Jammu region in recent months and similar relief
to the security men killed by militants.
In fact the Chief Minister wanted to woo people in Kashmir by
announcing exgratia relief and jobs to the kins of the deceased. But a
survey conducted reveals that most of the parents of the victims of
pellet gun fire are not impressed by the relief and jobs. They want
justice by booking killers of stone pelters. For instance parents of a boy who was
beaten to death in Khrew area in Pulwama district do not want cash relief which may not bring their dead son back. They want punishment to the three security force men.
Reports said that separatists were behind the campaign in which
they are trying to motivate people, whose boys were killed in pellet
gun fire, not to accept any relief. Demand justice and then accept
cash and jobs. Will Mehbooba's decision win back peoples' support? It
is a moot question in the wake of anti-Government campaign launched by
the separatists.(KIP)
