Jammu Tawi: Jammu and Kashmir Youth Congress (JKPYC) staged a massive protest in Jammu on Monday, condemning the recent killing of three youth in Kathua district by terrorists. The protest was organized under the direction of IYC President Uday Bhanu Chib and IYC Incharge J&K Maan Singh Rathore, with JKPYC General Secretary Anirudh Sawhney leading the demonstration.
Protesters expressed outrage over the rising number of terror incidents in the Union Territory, accusing the central government of failing to protect civilians. Amid slogans against the ruling government, demonstrators burned an effigy of the Union Home Minister as a symbolic gesture, demanding accountability for the escalating security lapses.
Anirudh Sawhney, speaking at the protest, raised alarms about the increasing frequency of terror attacks in Kathua, Udhampur, and Rajouri—areas once considered relatively safe. He criticized the government’s claims of bringing stability to Jammu and Kashmir, stating that the reality was the opposite, with more than 390 civilians killed in terrorist attacks since 2014. He demanded a clear and actionable plan to protect civilians instead of relying on temporary measures after each attack.
Sawhney also took aim at the LG administration in Jammu and Kashmir, saying, “Is this why Jammu and Kashmir was made a Union Territory? The law and order situation has worsened, and even the LG administration is unable to control the situation.” He further stressed that the central government must address the growing concerns about security and intelligence preparedness in the region.
During the protest, Divyansh Singh, Ranjoth Singh, and Amit Sial demanded the resignation of the Union Home Minister, holding him responsible for the deteriorating security situation. They also called for the immediate restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, claiming the region had been arbitrarily stripped of its rights. They emphasized that people in Jammu and Kashmir deserve peace, not empty promises.
Other prominent JKPYC leaders, including Surinder Kumar, Divyansh Verma, Happy Randhawa, Rahul Tandon, and many others, participated in the protest. The protestors vowed to continue their agitation until the government addresses their concerns, stressing the need for immediate and decisive action to ensure the safety of the people in the region.
