    Worsening Law & Order Worrisome

The scenario with regard to law and order in Jammu region has been deteriorating with each passing day with crime graph witnessing unprecedented surge. The situation has turned so grim that many social media users have been openly sharing their apprehensions over this new emerging crisis across the region, comparing the present state of affairs with those states which are infamous for uncontrolled crime and lawlessness. In the latest series of unprecedented criminal activities being surfaced in and around Jammu, a 27-year-old criminal lost one of his hands after he was attacked by his rival gang in Miran Sahib Area. He was reportedly attacked by unidentified men carrying sharp weapons over some old animosity in Langotian Village and one of the hands of ‘victim’ was severed.

This was not the only crime case in the last couple of days as in another horrendous crime incident, panic gripped the Kotli Mian Fateh area near Bishnah Ring Road after a 55-year-old man was found burning under mysterious circumstances. In this case, the victim, a resident of R S Pura was spotted engulfed in flames by some locals, who later succumbed in the hospital. The next day, the family members of the deceased staged a demonstration in the RS Pura area seeking justice and compensation to his legal heirs. Considering the increase in the frequency of such criminal activities one can point out that there is a visible decline in public safety and policing efficiency, the issue which needs to be addressed sooner than later for J&K being a crucial region already confronting turmoil since the 1990s.

The rising graph of gang rivalries, thefts, robberies, and other acts of lawlessness is a clear cut sign that the people with criminal mindset are becoming increasingly emboldened with no fear of law enforcement agencies. The dwindling situation of law and order in the region has affected the trust of people in the administration, which is a bad sign and something which is disturbing for one and all especially the common man, who rely on law implementing agencies for safety and security.

The police being the main stakeholder should take appropriate steps in the direction to restore the trust of people or else things might go out of control as people with the criminal background presently have been acting fearlessly at their own will without caring about the law of the land.
