Jammu Tawi: The National Conference (NC) has called for women to take center stage in the upcoming Panchayat and Urban Local Body elections in Jammu and Kashmir, asserting that they will be crucial in the socio-political transformation of the region.
Rattan Lal Gupta, Provincial President of JKNC, made this statement during a meeting of women functionaries at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan, Jammu, chaired by Bimla Luthra, Ex-MLA. The meeting emphasized the importance of women’s involvement in strengthening the political landscape of J&K. Prominent youth leaders Zahir Abdullah and Zameer Abdullah were also present at the event.
Gupta reiterated the National Conference’s longstanding commitment to women’s empowerment and urged women in the region to step forward and strengthen the party’s efforts in the upcoming elections. He assured that under the leadership of Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah, the party would ensure significant representation for women in the political sphere.
Zahir Abdullah recalled the historical contributions of Madr-e-Meharban, a key figure in the socio-political movements of J&K who championed female literacy and the empowerment of marginalized communities. He emphasized that the National Conference has consistently stood for the rights of women, regardless of their background, and will continue to prioritize their inclusion and representation in all aspects of governance.
The meeting concluded with a pledge to further empower women in J&K and ensure they play a pivotal role in shaping the region’s democratic future.
