Jammu Tawi: Press Information Bureau, Jammu in coordination with Field Outreach Bureau (FOB), Kathua, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India today organized a webinar on ‘Role of Vernacular Press during the freedom struggle of India’ as a part of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mohatsav’ to celebrate the 75 years of India’s independence. In his introductory address, Khursheed Yousuf said that the actual aim of conducting this kind of a webinar on the theme ‘Role of Vernacular Press during the freedom struggle of India’ is to instill the spirit of sacrifice and patriotism among the masses & to showcase the contribution of freedom fighters and the press during the course of India’s freedom struggle. In her Keynote address, Dr. Archana Kumari, Senior Assistant Professor, Department of Media Studies, Central University of Jammu, said that the vernacular press saw various difficulties and hurdles in its way but didn’t stop its political awareness and freedom struggle until the country got independence in 1947 from the British. Sheikh Mudasir Amin, Media & Communications Officer, Press Information Bureau, Jammu in his address said that the growth of vernacular press was the turning point in the India’s struggle for independence against the mighty British Empire which reported exuberantly and heightened the concerns of masses about the exploitation & repressive policies of British Government. The webinar was moderated by Vijay Matoo, in charge FOB Kathua & Sheikh Mudasir Amin, Media & Communications Officer, PIB, Jammu.
