Puducherry, Dec 29: Vice President C P Radhakrishnan on Monday stressed the need for ensuring basic amenities for the poor, saying governments must prioritise food, shelter and essential facilities to meet the expectations of vulnerable sections.
He was speaking after distributing keys to beneficiaries of multi-storied tenements constructed at a cost of ₹45.5 crore at Kumaragurupallam under the Smart City Mission. The Vice President was also accorded a civic reception during his maiden visit to Puducherry after assuming office.
Describing the housing initiative as laudable, Radhakrishnan said the Puducherry government had taken a meaningful step towards addressing the housing needs of the poor.
