Uttarakhand: Heavy Rains Trigger Landslide in Nandanagar, 5 Missing

Gopeshwar, Sep 18: Five people went missing on Thursday after a landslide, triggered by heavy rains, demolished houses in disaster-hit Nandanagar of Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district.

According to the district disaster management centre, debris from the landslide destroyed at least six houses in Kuntri ward. Seven people were inside when the incident occurred; two were rescued alive while five remain untraced.

Rescue operations are underway with SDRF and NDRF teams, supported by a medical unit and three ambulances rushed to the spot.

Meanwhile, flooding in the Mokh river swept away six houses in Dhurma village of the same area. The region has been vulnerable since August, when land subsidence caused cracks in several houses, forcing residents to relocate to safer places.  (Agencies)
