In a significant and timely move, The Resistance Front (TRF)—a proxy outfit of the Pakistan-based terror organisation Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT)—has been designated as a Foreign Terrorist Organization. This designation comes after the group’s involvement in the brutal Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, in which 26 innocent civilians lost their lives.
TRF has operated as a rebranded arm of LeT, created to give a false impression of indigenous militancy in Jammu and Kashmir. However, investigations by India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA), which identified Sheikh Sajjad Gul as the mastermind of the Pahalgam massacre, exposed the direct involvement of Pakistan-sponsored terror machinery in orchestrating violence on Indian soil.
Pakistan’s persistent role in exporting terrorism to India through proxy groups like LeT and its affiliates remains one of the gravest challenges to peace and stability in the region. These groups are not only nurtured but often shielded under state patronage, using sophisticated propaganda and cross-border infiltration to destabilize Indian territory and derail democratic processes in Jammu and Kashmir.
The global recognition of TRF as a terror outfit is a much-needed affirmation of India’s long-standing concerns. It reinforces the fact that terrorism, in any guise or branding, cannot be justified or ignored. Repackaging terrorism under new names to escape scrutiny is a tactic frequently employed by Pakistan-backed groups, but international awareness and coordinated action are beginning to pierce through these deceptive narratives.
This move is not just about one organisation—it is about setting a precedent. The international community must now build on this momentum and hold accountable those who use terror as an instrument of state policy. Pakistan can no longer deflect global attention from its complicity by blaming internal grievances or portraying such groups as “freedom fighters.”
India has consistently called for a zero-tolerance approach to terrorism, and this designation is a step in the right direction. However, for real impact, it must be followed by tangible action—freezing assets, cutting logistical support, and exposing those who provide ideological and financial backing.
Terrorism is a threat not just to one nation but to the very fabric of civilised society. The world must come together to ensure that perpetrators, sponsors, and enablers of terror find no refuge, and that the victims of attacks like Pahalgam are never forgotten.
