Trains to continue amid Covid surge

Date:

As Covid-19 cases across rise rapidly, sources in the Union Ministry of Railways have clarified that passenger trains will continue to run normally.

There is no reason for anyone to panic or speculate, the Ministry said on Twitter. People can book their tickets and travel to their destinations comfortably and safely.

Social distancing norms will be followed. The Ministry of Railways has requested citizens to come to the railway stations only if they have confirmed/Reservation Against Cancellation (RAC) tickets.

Meanwhile, several state governments have imposed Covid-related curbs and restrictions to contain the spread of the virus. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, for example, announced a one-week lockdown until April 26. A strict two-week lockdown was also imposed in Rajasthan from Monday morning onwards.

India reported 2,73,810 fresh Covid-19 cases and 1,619 deaths in 24 hours on Monday. There are currently 19,29,329 active cases in the country. More than 12 crore doses of the Covid vaccine have been administered across India.
