Jammu, Dec 13: Krishi Vigyan Kendra(KVK), Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu(SKUAST-J) organised one day long training programme on “Agri-entrepreneurship development in rural areas” here today at village Matlote of Thuroo block in Reasi district of J&K. The programme was organised under the supervision and guidance of Associate Director Extension and Incharge of KVKs of SKUAST-J, Dr.R.K.Arora.
Large number of tribal farmers of the area participated in the programme. Dr.Banarsi Lal, Scientist &Head of KVK, Reasi initiated the programme with the warm welcome of the farmers. He gave a detail view of agri-entrepreneurship and said the farmers that they should divert themselves from the subsistence agriculture to commercial agriculture so that their income and employment can be enhanced. He said the tribal farmers that in order to increase their crop production they need to adopt modern agricultural technologies. He elaborated the scientific cultivation of Rabi crops.
He said the farmers that by commercial agriculture they can raise their socio-economic status. Dr. Sanjay Kaushal, scientist highlighted the eco-friendly agricultural technologies for sustainable agriculture.
He further said that by forming Self Help Groups' (SHGs) farmers can start the agri-entrepreneurship by getting the micro-finance from the commercial banks. He narrated that focus should be given on vermicomposting and gave the scientific techniques for vermicomposting.
He recommended certain fungicides and pesticides for the management of insect-pests and diseases. In this training programme many quarries were raised by the farmers which KVK scientists answered in a very satisfactorily way.
KVK, Reasi also laid Front Line Demonstrations (FLDs) on wheat and oat in the area and demonstrated the scientific technologies in detail. The programme was assisted by Sh. Manohar Lal and Sh. Md.Iqbal and concluded by Dr. Banarsi Lal with the formal vote of thanks.
