Reasi, November 12: A severe staffing crisis is plaguing the Government High School (GHS) Nagar, Pouni in District Reasi, with reports indicating a staggering nine out of 14 sanctioned posts are currently lying vacant.
According to sources, this major deficit is severely compromising the quality of education for the school’s 75 students, who are currently being taught by a mere five teachers.
“The situation is particularly critical as this is a high school, not a primary or middle school, meaning it requires specialized staff for higher grades,” said sources, adding that the breakdown of vacancies reveals several crucial posts are unfilled.
They said, five Master Grade posts are also vacant, resulting in huge subject coverage gaps for the students.
Further compounding the issue is the status of the Physical Education Teacher (PET), whose post is not technically vacant but is currently attached to another location.
“This means that while the school is entitled to a PET, the students are deprived of a dedicated teacher for sports and physical activities,” said sources, adding that the attachment has reportedly been in place for several months, and attempts to clarify the situation with senior education officers, including the Director of Education and Chief Education Officer Rajouri, yielded little clarity, with some officials reportedly being unaware of the PET’s whereabouts.
Sources questioned how will people put their children there? How will the strength of the schools increase?
“The administration needs to intervene and take immediate steps to rationalize the staff,” said sources, adding that the government must immediately fill the vacant posts.
