Students develop heat stroke symptoms during JU exams in absence of coolers

    Date:

, Jul 3: The University of Jammu is conducting examination of several batches including sixth semester of BA LLB students and first year Bsc paramedics in absence of basic facilities like coolers to relieve students from scorching heat.

On Tuesday, a few students of B.A. L.L.B students developed heat stroke like symptoms when they appeared for an examination at the varsity.

Few students who appeared in the examination said that they are still recovering from the heat stroke and are undergoing complete rest as advised by the doctors.

“We are not in a position to appear in the second paper if the situation continues to remain the same. The university authorities should come up with more facilities like coolers, if not the air conditioning system, so that students can focus on putting their best rather than beating the heat,” said a female student of Law department.

It is vacation time at the University of Jammu but students of sixth semester of Law department and first year students of Bachelor of Paramedics are appearing in the examinations in extreme heat.

The Law Department students were made to sit in an examination hall near J&K Bank inside University of Jammu where only ceiling fans were working which was not enough to beat the heat. Even for paramedics students no proper system was in place at different examination centers across the Jammu region.

Controller of Examination University of Jammu, Sanjeev Mahajan acknowledged that the examination center inside the varsity campus only has ceiling fan but at the same said that he is not aware of any student developing related issues.

“This is the end of a session and despite vacations, examinations are conducted to complete the process so that new admissions could be initiated. This has been done in the past as well,” he said.
