Jammu Tawi, May 27: The holy Amarnath Yatra of this year 2026 is going to be the costliest ever as the passenger fare for all the buses to be deployed for ferrying the pilgrims from Jammu to Srinagar and back from Srinagar to Jammu will be hiked by around twenty five percent (25%).
A total of two hundred (200) buses, including deluxe coach, Semi Deluxes and others will be provided by the J&K SRTC Department for the holy Amarnath Yatra this year.
Out of these 200 buses, one hundred (100) buses will ferry the Amarnath pilgrims on a daily basis in form of ‘Jatha’ from Jammu to Srinagar and back from Srinagar to Jammu, official sources informed the Northlines.
They further informed that these 100 buses will cover both the routes of the Amarnah Yatra i.e Pahalgam and the Baltal.
Some of the buses out of the remaining 100 buses provided by the J&K SRTC will be stationed at different points like Ramban, Banihal, Udhampur, Nagrota and other stations enroute the Yatra to make sure that the pilgrims do not face any inconvenience and the pilgrimage continues without any obstruction in case the buses carrying pilgrims faces any mechanical fault.
Apart from this, some empty buses will also escort the convoy (Jatha) of the Amarnath Yatra to ensure that the pilgrims from the buses are carried in these empty buses in case of any emergency, sources said.
“Already the passenger fare in J&K has been hiked by 18% and it will be hiked further for the Amarnath pilgrims as Deluxe and semi Deluxe (both AC) buses will be deployed for the yatra this year.” official sources further informed.
The list of fare charges for the Amarnath pilgrims will be issued/notified a week before the start of this holy pilgrimage, they said.
The holy Amarnath Yatra, this year, will be of 57 days and will begin from 3rd of July and will culminate on 27th of August. The fare for the passengers will be decided on the type of buses they travel.
