The executive meeting was held between the office bearers of SKUAST-Teaching Association Jammu (SKUAST-TAJ) under the chairmanship of its President, Dr. Vikas Sharma at Main Campus Chatha in which the issue regarding the enhancement in retirement age of University faculty members / scientists from 62 to 65 years was discussed. While chairing a meeting of office bearers, President SKUAST-TAJ Dr. Vikas Sharma said that G. B. Pant University of Agricultural Sciences & , Pantnagar and Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat, have taken the lead in this regard and fixed the age of superannuation as 65 in the year 2013 there by retaining the excellent human resource. Dr. Sharma said that Central University of Kashmir and Central University of Jammu have 65 yrs age of superannuation for their teachers, since their inception and this is in tune with the recommendations of University Grant Commission (UGC). He informed that in the recent Council Meet Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), Jammu also increased the superannuation age of their teachers to 65 and the agenda item regarding enhancement in superannuation age of teachers has already been approved long back in the Council Meet of University of Jammu and University of Kashmir. The house expressed concern that the erstwhile State Administration vide its office Memorandum No. A/Misc (Uni)-2018/318 dated 29.05.2018 has implemented all the 7th CPC recommendations except enhancement of superannuation age to 65 years. Pursuant to bifurcation of the J&K State into UTs of J&K and vide the Gazette of Notification No. 34 of 2019 dated 09.08.2019 followed by the Hon'ble Prime Minister's speech w.r.t extension of all the benefits of the 7th pay commission to the employees of the erstwhile J&K State , it is urged that the orders / notifications for enhancement age of superannuation from 62 to 65 years to University teachers in consonance with the UGC 7th pay commission recommendation (already in vogue in Central Universities of J&K and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Jammu ) may please be issued instantly. It is pertinent to mention here that superannuation age of teachers of Universities following under UTs with Legislation like Delhi & Pondicherry have already enhanced to 65 years.
