Singapore Airlines offers monetary relief and refunds to passengers of extreme turbulence incident

Singapore Airlines Provides Relief to Passengers of Turbulence-Hit Flight SQ321

One of the worst air turbulence incidents in recent times left passengers of Singapore Airlines flight SQ321 traumatized last month. The flight from London to Singapore encountered extreme turbulence on May 21st that resulted in severe injuries to many and one death. In a compassionate move, SIA is now offering monetary relief and refunds to the affected travelers.

The Boeing 777 aircraft was carrying 211 passengers and crew when it diverted to Bangkok due to the turbulence. The violent shaking of the plane tossed people against the ceiling causing injuries like brain and spinal cord damage to dozens. One elderly British passenger lost his life reportedly due to a heart attack during the ordeal. Recognizing the trauma faced by the flyers, SIA swiftly extended help and covered medical costs.

This week, the airline formally notified passengers about compensation. Those with minor injuries will receive $10,000 while seriously hurt individuals can seek a customized payout after recovery. As a goodwill gesture, all flyers will get a full refund of airfare paid along with assigned delay compensation. An advance aid of $25,000 is also being offered to people needing long-term care.

This thoughtful approach by SIA is commendable. While no amount can undo the distress caused, the compensation and refund aim to respect human dignity. It signals the airline's commitment to fairness even during troubled times. The response reiterates SIA's stellar reputation of putting people above profits. Passengers can hopefully find closure through this relief as they continue recovering from the traumatic episode.
