It was sheer luck for the players who practice regularly at the Mini Stadium Parade because the high-mast pole which was providing light and hope to the game lovers could not withstand the pressure of gale and collapsed in the middle of the aforesaid sports facility resulting in close shave for many.
It is really intriguing that despite tall claims by the helmsmen of containing corruption in the region, such things are happening giving concrete idea that contrary to claims the quality of works is still dismal and highly unreliable. It is for sure that people responsible for installing this edifice and those on whose shoulders was the responsibility of quality have not performed their duties well and therefore it is a matter of investigation that how such a huge pole couldn’t sustain the pressure of the wind and collapse in a dangerous manner.
With this incident, the government should not only start a detailed inquiry and set accountability but it should also order the audit for all such poles whether they are installed in Parade, MA Stadium, Green field Ground, or anywhere else in the region.
As the month of June is infamous for gusty winds, the government should not wait and go for the audit process as soon as possible, because it is the matter of lives of people, especially the sportspersons, who spend most of the time in these sports facilities.
Until the audit is complete and the concerned officials declare the rest of the poles and other infrastructure safe, it is advisable that the sporting activity should be halted because risking the lives of sportspersons is not at all advisable. The way the aforesaid pole has been collapsed, it seems that things have been accomplished in an unscientific manner because the speed of winds was not at all unprecedented and those who have passed the aforesaid edifice for installation need to give the answer as to how this has happened.
In this accident, there is a message for the players of the Union Territory to keep cautious while using the government edifice as there is no guarantee at all.
