    School bus turns turtle; Girl dies, 16 injured

    Tawi, August 10: In an tragic accident today morning a school bus turned turtle at Bishnah on its way to drop the students at School.

    The school bus skidded off a bridge and fell upside down. The school bus was ferrying girl students of RKS Girls School and officially one casualty of Khushboo, 12 yr, studying in class six of the school has been announced.

    Two students are seriously injured and over a dozen others are injured. The critically injured students have been shifted to Government Medical College Jammu.

    District Magistrate, Jammu Mr. Simranjeet Singh has ordered a Magisterial inquiry by SDM. Sharing information with the media, the District Magistrate said while a case for ex-gratia amount has been forwarded to the governments, the school management is directed to pay compensation of Rs. 2 lac to the next kin of killed and Rs. 50 each to the injured students.

    Angry parents and family members of the students who received grievous injuries protested and demanded severe action against the negligent school.

    A guardian of a class 8 girl (name withheld) who was among the injured said, “According to what the students have told us, the driver of the bus was having an argument with a teacher who was also travelling in the bus. The argument got heated up and the driver, allegedly, started driving rashly on purpose finally losing control over the bridge where the accident happened.”

    An angry parent pointed out details which further affirm that the vehicle employed by the school is not in great shape.

    Ashok Sangwan said, “The school bus is in a pathetic condition and is in no way safe 52-seater which everyday carries almost 100 students in it. The school does not follow these rules and in this case of clear overloading, our children had to pay the price.”

    Both daughters of Rajesh Kumar, Urvashi and Rashika are also admitted at GMC. Kumar told about the accident, “I found out about the accident after half-an-hour of my daughters boarding their school bus. Locals in the area had reached the spot to lift up the bus that had toppled two to three times. I have heard through others that the driver was driving rashly.”
