Rajya Sabha Reconstitutes Vice-Chairpersons Panel, Six Members Nominated

NEW DELHI, Apr 16: The Rajya Sabha on Thursday reconstituted its panel of vice-chairpersons, nominating six members from the BJP, Congress, AIADMK and BJD, with effect from April 15.

The panel includes Dinesh Sharma, S Phangnon Konyak and Ghanshyam Tiwari from the BJP; Phulo Devi Netam from the Congress; M. Thambidurai from the AIADMK; and Sasmit Patra from the BJD.

Members of the panel preside over the House in the absence of both the Chairman and Deputy Chairman, exercising the same powers to conduct proceedings, maintain order and regulate debates.

Unlike the Deputy Chairman, the vice-chairpersons do not hold a permanent constitutional post and perform their duties on a rotational basis as required during sittings. (Agencies)
