Punjab: Son arrested for conspiring to murder father over property dispute

Phagwara, Dec 3: A 24-year-old man and three accomplices have been arrested for allegedly conspiring to murder his father over a property dispute in Kapurthala (Punjab). The crime, which took place on the night of December 1, was solved by the district police on Tuesday under the leadership of SSP Gaurav Toora.
The accused have been identified as Karan Kumar (24), the son of the deceased, Suraj Kumar (45), from Amrik Nagar, Bhulana; and his three accomplices: Tarsem Lal, alias Billa (24) from Sardulla Pur, Kabirpur; Mangat Ram, alias Goli (29) from Mohalla Ucha Dhaora, Kapurthala; and Harjinder Singh, alias Jinder (24) from Busowal, Kabirpur. Harjinder Singh had a prior case against him, registered on October 16.
SSP Toora confirmed that Karan Kumar had hired the three men to murder his father out of fear that he would be evicted from the family property. Karan allegedly paid Rs 4 lakh to his accomplices to carry out the murder.
The incident occurred when Suraj Kumar, who worked at a private clubhouse, left for work at 4:30 PM on December 1. He was attacked with a sharp weapon and suffered fatal head injuries. Despite being rushed to the Civil Hospital in Kapurthala, Suraj was declared dead on arrival.
A case was initially filed against unknown persons at Sadar police station, Kapurthala. However, through investigation, the police uncovered Karan’s involvement in the crime. Police have recovered the weapons used in the murder, including two sharp knives, and the motorcycle used by the accused.
The motive behind the crime was rooted in Karan’s fear of losing his family home. The accused will face legal action following their arrest.
