Bad weather scuttles President’s Kargil visit

Drass/ Srinagar, Jul 26: President Ram Nath Kovind couldn't reach on Monday owing to the bad didn't allow his plane to take off from Srinagar forcing him to visit north 's Baramulla District where paid tributes to soldiers who laid lives in Kargil war 22 years ago.

This is for the second time since 2019 that the president Kovind couldn't reach Kargil to attend Vijay Diwas celebrations. An official told the President's plane couldn't take off from Srinagar due to bad weather and difficult flying conditions for crossing Himilyan peaks like Zojila Pass.

The official said Plan B was been put in place and the President's convey was diverted towards Gulmarg, Baramulla. A series of tweets on President Kovind's official handle read that, “President Kovind interacts with officers and jawans of (Srinagar-based) Chinar Corps and High Altitude Warfare School, Gulmarg. President Kovind visits High Altitude Warfare School, Gulmarg, one of the most premier institutions in the field of warfare and writes a message appreciating and encouraging our soldiers who defend our borders.”

Another tweet read: “In a message at the Dagger War Memorial at Baramulla, President Kovind paid tributes to the soldiers who laid down their lives defending the nation with indomitable courage and valour.” Yet another tweet read: “On Kargil Vijay Diwas, President Kovind laid a wreath at the Dagger War Memorial, Baramulla, & Kashmir, to pay tributes to all soldiers who sacrificed their lives in defending the nation.”

Office of the LG also tweeted that “LG Manoj Sinha visited High Altitude Warfare School, Gulmarg,Baramulla along with president Ram Nath Kovind Ji, interacted with troops and appreciated their dedication towards the nation. HAWS is one of the premier institutions established to train our soldiers.”
