Banihal (Ramban), Oct 17: Vehicular movement on the Jammu–Srinagar national highway was disrupted after a portion of a protection wall collapsed in Ramban district, officials said on Friday.
Around 40 metres of the wall and the adjoining Sawni panchayat link road caved in on Thursday night, damaging one tube of the four-lane highway.
Project Director, NHAI Shubham Yadav, confirmed that a 40-metre section of the back wall had been damaged. “One tube of the highway has been closed. The cause of erosion is yet to be determined,” he said.
Restoration work has been launched to reopen the affected stretch at the earliest. Meanwhile, traffic is being regulated through a single operational tube, causing slow movement on the route.
The collapse also affected the Sawni panchayat link road, hampering local connectivity. Officials from the NHAI, district administration, and traffic department are monitoring the site to prevent further damage and restore smooth movement on the strategic highway linking Kashmir with the rest of the country.
