Police Worked Shoulder To Shoulder With Other Security Forces During ‘Op Sindoor’: BSF DG

Hyderabad, Oct 17: Director General of Border Security Force (BSF) Daljit Singh Chawdhary on Friday commended the role of police in national security, highlighting their coordination with armed forces during ‘Operation Sindoor’.

Speaking at the passing-out parade of the 77th batch of Indian Police Service (IPS) probationers at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA) in Hyderabad, Chawdhary said the police have always stood shoulder to shoulder with other security forces during critical operations.

“In operations like ‘Sindoor’, the police worked alongside the armed forces and central armed police forces. This coordination reminds us that national security is a collective responsibility,” he said.

Chawdhary emphasized that IPS officers serve as a bridge between the state’s strength and the people’s trust, ensuring democracy endures even during crises. He outlined the diverse responsibilities of the IPS — from tackling terrorism, narcotics, and smuggling to enforcing socio-economic laws and safeguarding biodiversity.

Urging officers to uphold the highest standards of integrity and human rights, the BSF DG said, “You are stepping into service at a time of transformative change. Challenges like terrorism, Left-Wing Extremism, radicalisation, and cybercrime demand courage, compassion, and fairness.”

He called on officers to adopt a policing model that is “smart, strict, and sensitive; modern and mobile; alert and accountable.” While technology can be a force multiplier, he stressed that public trust is earned through compassion, accessibility, and responsiveness.

“A police station is the citizen’s first point of contact — its functioning will reflect your leadership,” Chawdhary said, urging young officers to strengthen grassroots policing to enhance the credibility of the service.  (Agencies)
