Jammu, June 09: Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi today congratulated the Indian Athletics team which remained overall third in the just held 20th Asian Under-20 Championship at Yecheon in South Korea.
The Prime Minister in a tweet said, “Proud of Our Athletes. They performed exceptionally well”. Earlier, during the day, the team received a grant welcome at Athletics Federation of India (AFI) headquarters in New Delhi on their return. Dr Lalit Bhanot, president South Asian Athletics Federation felicitated the athletes, coaches and manager of the team.
The Indian team bagged 19 medals which included six Gold, seven Silver and Six bronze. Worthwhile to mention here that Sharat Chander Singh of J&K accompanied the team to Yecheon as team Manager and played a crucial role in overall success of the athletes.
Meanwhile, Sharat Chander, who serves with J&K Police as DySP and presently holds the post of general secretary in the J&K Athletics Association thanked AFI for giving him the opportunity to serve the game.
