Pilgrims upset as farmers’ protest hits rail service to Katra

Jammu Tawi, May 17: The rail traffic has been badly hit due to the ongoing farmers’ protest in Punjab as trains are operating a few hours late from their scheduled timings.

An official said that the train service especially to Jammu and Katra is badly affected due to the farmers’ movement in the neighbouring Punjab, adding, “many trains are either cancelled or running a few hours late from their scheduled timings.”

He added that Jammu Mail (Old Delhi to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra) and the special train running between Martyr Captain Tushar Mahajan Udhampur Railway Station to Saria Rohilla in Delhi are cancelled on May 17, 18 and 19.

An official stated that another train, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra-Kalka Express has also been cancelled for May 17-18, adding, “the routes of some trains arriving at Jammu are diverted that has led to delay of around 4 to 5 hours from scheduled timings.”

The pilgrims of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi are among those facing hardships due to the affected rail service, said an official.

“Two trains are cancelled for three days and the decision on further schedule will be taken later depending on the developments due to the farmers’ protest,” said Prateek Srivastav, Station Director, Jammu.

Notably, farmers have assembled near Shambhu Station in Punjab due to which train service is affected.
