New Delhi, Mar 26: In a major success for security forces in Balochistan, an infiltration attempt by Baloch militants on a key naval airbase was thwarted overnight resulting in the elimination of six terrorists. The incident took place in Turbat, a volatile region in the vast province bordering Iran and Afghanistan. According to official sources, armed men launched assaults from three boundaries of PNS Siddique naval air station, one of Pakistan's largest naval aviation facilities, in the early hours of Monday. However, the alert security personnel responded swiftly and prevented the militants from entering the highly sensitive premises. Neighbors reported hearing gunfire and explosions through the night as the operation was underway. While authorities did not share further operation details, they confirmed that six militants were killed during the counter-terrorism action. No loss was suffered by naval aviation assets either. The Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), a banned separatist outfit, sought to take responsibility via its Majeed Brigade. This is the brigade's third major terror attempt this year to have been effectively neutralized by the security apparatus after previous strikes in Mach and Gwadar were also foiled. With a porous border and foreign meddling aiding militancy, Balochistan continues to be restive although security officials are countering the menace through precision targeting of terror elements. The elimination of six terrorists in the latest episode is a significant achievement that will undoubtedly weaken the subversive designs of militant groups operating from across the international frontier.
