Pakistan is in upheaval

Date:

Imran Khan, the PTI chairman, was detained in Islamabad in connection with a land transfer case involving real estate magnate Malik Riaz. He was turned over to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) after being charged with corruption and engaging in corrupt behaviour. While he was undergoing a biometric procedure at the court, the Pakistan Rangers, who work under the Interior Ministry and are typically led by officials on secondment from the army, broke open the glass window and took him into custody after beating lawyers and Khan's security personnel. Massive demonstrations broke out in many Pakistani cities, and for the first time, Khan's followers tore down the main gate of the army's expansive headquarters in Rawalpindi while yelling anti-establishment chants.
The interim government made a call. In order to maintain peace and order in the province, the interim Punjab government called in the Rangers and enacted Section 144. A day after the Pakistan Army criticised Khan for making “highly irresponsible and baseless” accusations against an active ISI officer without supporting documentation, Khan was apprehended. Since his ousting by a no-trust vote in April of last year, Khan has been involved in a number of cases, which he has dismissed as political victimisation on the part of the ruling alliance.
In terms of democracy, Pakistan's past has been turbulent. In 1956, the republic of Pakistan approved its first constitution, establishing it as the Islamic Republic. However, when General Ayub Khan overthrew the government in 1958, the nation experienced its first military coup.

With multiple military interventions, Pakistan's history of democracy has been rocky. General Yahya Khan's military dictatorship, which began in 1969 and lasted until 1971, came after General Ayub Khan's rule. When East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) seceded during this time, Pakistan faced a serious problem that ultimately resulted in the country's dissolution. Military coups, generals becoming president repeatedly, and their clinging to power by all means necessary have all been carried out in the name of preserving democracy in Pakistan. All this disarray has resulted in poor leadership, a lack of political continuity, and a lack of political will to address the nation's problems. The result of these economic issues has been social instability, unemployment, and poverty. Pakistan's and government have suffered as a result of the country's pervasive corruption. It has reduced public confidence in institutions, slowed down economic expansion, and sparked social upheaval. Due to the government's inability to properly handle these problems, societal unrest and political instability have resulted. The 's largest exporter of terrorism has been Pakistan. The community has been ignoring Pakistan's participation in funding terrorists overseas despite abundant evidence to the contrary.
Pakistan is currently dealing with serious issues, such as a huge external debt, a depreciated currency, and surging inflation, amid a deteriorating economic crisis. Pakistan has been negotiating with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a necessary financial bailout in an effort to address these problems. Despite its best efforts, Pakistan is still unable to obtain the crucial USD 1.1 billion rescue package that is required to prevent a possible bankruptcy catastrophe.
Protests erupted after the former Pakistani prime minister was taken into custody in a number of cities across the nation, including Quetta, Karachi, Peshawar, Rawalpindi, and Lahore. Imran Khan's fans are currently taking part in violent rallies and attacking crucial government structures like the Radio Pakistan headquarters, the Air Force Station, and other significant sites.
