    Painting Competition organised by WLD

    Tawi, NOVEMBER 06: Wildlife Department (WLD) in collaboration with NGO-“Himalayan Avian” today organized a Painting Competition for children.

    Theme of the painting competition was “Birds of My River”. The children of different age groups participated in the event. The Children draw 287 paintings depicting their understanding about Wetlands, Water birds, Nature, Pollution showing various aspects and issues. The participant children represented different districts of UT of Jammu and .

    The objective of the event was to raise awareness among the children about wildlife conservation with particular reference to conservation of wetlands and water birds.

    Speaking on the occasion, Suresh Kumar Gupta, Chief Wildlife Warden of Jammu and Kashmir, highlighted the importance of water birds in wetland ecosystems. He mentioned that wildlife areas of Jammu and Kashmir are rich in biodiversity and involvement of students and children in various awareness programmes is key to the future conservation prospects. He lauded the role of Himalayan Avian in supporting the department in organizing such events.

    Dr. Kumar MK, Regional Wildlife Warden, Jammu appreciated the participants for giving shapes in colours to their thoughts and understanding about birds and wetlands. Guldev Raj from Himalayan Avian gave a brief account about various activities and awareness programmes undertaken by the NGO. All the participants of the painting competition were given certificates, trophies and study material.

    The programme was conducted by Anil Atri, Wildlife Warden, Jammu and attended by officers and officials of Department of Wildlife Protection, Himalayan Avian and various children and their parents.
