The tech industry leader and head of graphics chip maker Nvidia, Jensen Huang, recently opened up about dedicating all his time and energy to work. In a conversation with Stripe CEO Patrick Collison, Huang revealed that he commits himself to the job from the moment he wakes up in the morning till going to bed at night, with this schedule continuing all through the week without breaks.
Huang shared that though he used to wake up as early as 5 am, nowadays he gets up at 6 am due to his puppies to not disturb their sleep. However, as soon as he is up, it is straight to work with no time for relaxation or stretching. On dedicating his entire life to developing Nvidia into an innovation powerhouse, Huang said there are challenges but he is fully committed to helping the company grow to its greatest potential.
Experts warn such an intense work schedule with no downtime can significantly impact physical and mental health. Dr. Manjusha Agarwal from Mumbai advised that immediately starting tasks after waking provides no rest for the body and mind, increasing chances of injuries, burnout and feeling overwhelmed. She recommends using the early morning hours for light activities like yoga, meditation or deep breathing that prepare both body and mind for the day in a relaxed manner.
In summary, while Huang's driven work ethic has led Nvidia to immense success, medical professionals emphasize the importance of incorporating self-care routines such as stretching into the early mornings to reap overall wellness benefits and reduce stress that comes with high-pressure roles and extended work hours. Finding a balance is vital for sustaining peak performance levels over the long term.
