Bengaluru, June 20: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for adopting a holistic strategy to tackle challenges in India’s healthcare sector. Speaking at the inauguration of the Adichunchanagiri University (ACU) Bengaluru campus, Shah highlighted various health initiatives launched under Modi’s leadership.
He emphasized that the Modi government has addressed healthcare not in isolation but as part of a broader developmental agenda. “PM Modi once said that the biggest issue for the poor is illness and the cost of treatment. Today, I can proudly say that he has fulfilled his promise by ensuring free treatment up to ₹5 lakh for 60 crore people,” Shah stated.
Citing key initiatives, Shah noted the construction of toilets in over 12 crore households, promotion of fitness through the Fit India Movement and International Yoga Day, and nutritional support via Mission Indradhanush and Poshan Abhiyaan. He also mentioned schemes like Ayushman Bharat and the Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana as critical components of the government’s inclusive healthcare approach.
The event marked the launch of ACU’s new campus, reflecting the Centre’s focus on integrating health and education for national development.
