This is not the first time that a militant has returned to his family. On 2 March, the DGP had said that a young man who had joined militancy in the Valley had returned following an appeal from his mother.
Over a dozen militants have surrendered in Kashmir since 2017 when the police announced that they will accept any offer of surrender of local militants even during ongoing encounters.
Some of those who surrendered came back home following appeals from their families. A notable surrender was of Majid Khan. The Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant returned home in November 2017 after his mother went on air asking him to shun militancy
