Srinagar, Oct 21: Leader of Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, Sunil Sharma, on Monday accused the National Conference (NC) of betraying the people and promoting dynastic politics, asserting that voters are now looking for alternatives. He made the remarks while addressing reporters in Budgam ahead of the by-election.
“NC has deceived people in Jammu and Kashmir for decades. Recently, it took a u-turn on smart meters. People are now seeking alternatives,” Sharma said, alleging that the Abdullah family continues to dominate regional politics.
“People have started a fight against the Abdullah family and will reject them. A big fight has begun in Kashmir against family dominance,” he added, warning that the NC could soon collapse like a pack of cards. Sharma also criticised the party’s governance, pointing to what he called double standards on issues like smart meters and other policies, saying, “Those who eat with silver spoons can never understand the pain of poor people.”
Sharma further claimed that the BJP would ensure implementation of welfare policies at the ground level in Budgam and across Kashmir. “PM Modi’s policies are pro-poor. The BJP will take these welfare measures to the people in Budgam and throughout Kashmir,” he said.
The Budgam by-election became necessary after Chief Minister Omar Abdullah retained his Ganderbal seat in the 2024 assembly elections. The BJP has fielded Aga Mohsin as its candidate for the bypoll. (KNO)
