New Delhi, Oct 20: A 22-year-old pregnant woman was fatally stabbed by her former live-in partner in Nabi Karim, central Delhi, on Saturday night, police said. The 26-week pregnant victim and her unborn child died in the attack, while her husband, 23, who intervened, sustained serious stab wounds. The 34-year-old suspect was killed after the husband retaliated.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Nidhin Valsan described the incident as a “crime of passion,” triggered by the victim’s reconciliation with her husband after leaving the suspect due to alleged abuse of her children.
According to police, the victim, her husband, and their two daughters (aged 2 and 4) were traveling in an e-rickshaw to visit her mother when the former partner arrived at the scene and attacked the husband with a knife. Seeing the victim, he stabbed her multiple times. The husband, in an attempt to protect her, was also stabbed before overpowering the attacker and stabbing him in return.
The victim and the suspect were declared brought dead at Lady Harding Medical College Hospital, while the husband is undergoing treatment. A murder and attempted murder case has been registered on the complaint of the victim’s mother.
Police sources said the suspect had a prior criminal record and was previously registered as a “bad character” at Nabi Karim police station. The couple had lived separately due to matrimonial disputes, during which the victim stayed with the suspect in a live-in relationship. Tensions escalated after the victim reconciled with her husband, which reportedly led to the fatal attack.
Investigations are ongoing, with statements recorded from the victim’s family and neighbors to piece together the chain of events leading to the crime. (Agencies)
