Leh, July 12: The Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), launched the official logo for Mudu Unna (Soft Wool) Pashmina Ladakh, aimed at supporting women’s Self-Help Groups (SHGs), during a ceremony held in New Delhi.
Conceptualised by First Lady Smt Neelam Mishra and designed by Kaninika Mishra, the logo represents the branding initiative under the theme ‘Pashmina: The Soft Gold of Ladakh.’ The term “Mudu Unna” is derived from the Pali language, with mudu meaning soft and unna meaning wool.
Highlighting the UT Administration’s initiatives, the LG emphasized ongoing efforts to improve livelihoods in the Changthang region by providing pashmina kid pens and promoting pashmina goat rearing. He expressed hope that this initiative would significantly empower women artisans engaged in SHGs.
Deputy Resident Commissioner of Ladakh Bhawan, Delhi, Sonam Chhosdon,, underlined the need for a unified brand for Ladakhi women artisans to boost market access, ensure fair wages, promote traditional skills, and preserve Ladakhi heritage through sustainable and collective efforts.
