Amarnath pilgrim from Ludhiana goes missing in Ganderbal

Srinagar, July 12: An Amarnath pilgrim, identified as Surinder Pal Arora from Ludhiana, went missing in Ganderbal district after reportedly jumping over a railing near Z-Morh during a bout of high-altitude sickness, police said on Saturday.

Arora was trekking from Brarimarg to Railpathri with six others when he began behaving erratically around midnight—running aimlessly, taking cold water showers, and eventually jumping off a railing near a glacier, according to officials.

Multiple rescue teams including the police, Mountain Rescue Teams (MRTs), SDRF, NDRF, JKAP, CRP, and VHGS have been deployed. Drones are also being used to aid the search operation.

Authorities are continuing their efforts under challenging high-altitude conditions, as the incident raises concern over health preparedness during the annual pilgrimage.
