India's top men's doubles pair Satwik Sairaj and Chirag Shetty will have to navigate their badminton journey without the guidance of their longtime coach Mathias Boe, as the Danish legend has announced his retirement from coaching.
In an emotional social media post, Boe opened up about his decision to step away from coaching after spending many tireless years inside badminton halls around the world. The 43-year-old reflected on feeling “tired” from the stresses of being a coach and said it was simply time to enjoy some well-deserved rest after his formidable career.
Boe has been instrumental in the success of Satwik and Chirag, helping guide their rapid rise up the world rankings to become a top five pair. He played a huge role in their Commonwealth Games gold and slew of Super 500 and Super 1000 titles. However, his coaching journey has now come to an end according to his own announcement.
In his message to his former star players, Boe acknowledged their disappointing quarterfinal exit from the recent Paris Olympics but praised their dedication and passion over the years. He expressed confidence that Satwik and Chirag have extraordinarily bright futures still ahead of them despite this small Olympic setback.
Indian badminton as a whole is deeply indebted to Mathias Boe for his selfless contributions in the national coaching setup. He worked tirelessly behind the scenes and left an indelible mark on the sport in this country. While he will be sorely missed, his legend will live on through all those players he inspired to greatness. This truly is an end of an era for Indian shuttlers.
