Legal awareness camp was today held under the chairmanship of Principal District & Sessions Judge, Ganderbal, Mohammad Yousuf Wani, organised by District Legal Services Authority Ganderbal at Govt. Boys Hr. Sec. School Ganderbal.
The programme was attended by members of Child Welfare Committee, Juvenile Justice Board, lawyers, students including staff members of school.
The camp was aimed to make students aware of their entitlements under the law and apprise them about laws relating to offences against women and children with special emphasis on Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Ordinance and Juvenile Justice Act.
During the camp, several Advocates apprised the participants of the schemes available under the legal aid services and spoke on laws relating to offences against women and children with special emphasis on POSCO Ordinance and Juvenile Justice Act.
Highlighting the importance of protection of women and children from sexual offences, Principal District & Sessions Judge said that stringent laws are formed to provide protection to women and children against offences and advised the students to get awareness about such laws. The objective of this programme is to make the students aware about their rights and laws relating to offences against women and children besides the provision under the Constitution of India for their own benefits, he added.
