Lawyer Attempts to Throw Shoe at CJI in Supreme Court, Taken into Custody

New Delhi, Oct 6: In a shocking incident at the Supreme Court on Monday, a lawyer attempted to throw a shoe at Chief Justice of India (CJI) B.R. Gavai during a hearing. Reports suggest the individual also engaged in sloganeering inside the courtroom before being removed by security personnel, temporarily disrupting court proceedings.

According to eyewitnesses, the lawyer shouted slogans such as “Insult of Sanatan Dharma, Hindustan will not tolerate it”. While some said the individual tried to throw a shoe at the CJI, others claimed a paper roll was hurled instead. The person was reportedly dressed in a lawyer’s attire.

Legal news portal, quoting sources, reported that during a hearing before a bench headed by the CJI, the lawyer ran towards the bench and attempted to remove his shoe to attack the Chief Justice. He was immediately restrained and escorted out by court security.

Following the incident, CJI Gavai stated that such disruptions do not affect him and promptly resumed court proceedings. The Supreme Court has ordered an inquiry into the incident, and questioning of the lawyer is underway.

The episode is believed to be linked to social media outrage over comments made by CJI Gavai during hearings on a petition related to the installation of a Vishnu idol at the Javari temple in Khajuraho. The Chief Justice had previously responded to online criticism, stating, “I have been informed that my comments have gone viral on social media. I respect all religions.” (Agencies)
