Jammu Tawi, July 27: Justice Sanjay Gupta, sitting judge of J&K High Court passed away today, late evening due to an illness.
The news of the sudden death of Justice Gupta has come as a shock to legal fraternity and is a big loss to the Bar and the Bench.
Justice Sanjay Gupta, 59, is survived by his wife, one son and one daughter.
Justice Gupta was appointed as permanent Judge of Jammu Kashmir High Court and he took oath on June 6, 2017.
Known for his humility and fast disposal, he remained dedicated to his duties and devoted to justice. He was often referred as a hardworking but a pro-human judge.
According to his family sources, the cremation will take place tomorrow at Jogi Gate, cremation Ghat.
Born on November 24,196, Justice Sanjay Kumar Gupta, a B.Sc with medical subjects from G.G.M Science College, did his L.L.B. from University of Jammu. He first enrolled as Advocate in Bar Council of Delhi in 1986 and later joined Jammu Bar in the Chamber of late Sh S S Lehar (Senior Advocate) and acquired proficiency in all stream of practice – criminal, civil, revenue, MACT etc.
He qualified higher judicial services and appointed directly as District and Sessions Judge on Jan 22, 2004 to be posted as Additional District and Sessions Judge Doda. He later during his tenure also served as District and Sessions Judge in various district courts at Jammu, as 1st Additional, 2nd Additional,3rd Additional, Additional District and Sessions Judge and finally as Principal District and Sessions Judge, Jammu where from he was elevated as permanent Judge of High Court of Jammu and Kashmir.
He had also served as 3rd and 4th Additional District and Sessions Judge Srinagar, Judicial Member Special Tribunal, J&K at Jammu, One man Forest Tribunal Jammu and Kashmir, Principal District and Sessions Judge Leh, Principal District and sessions Judge, Rajouri.
