JAMMU, Aug 14: Jammu and Kashmir Police has emerged as the top recipient of gallantry honors in the country, securing 127 Gallantry Medals on Independence Day 2025 — the highest tally among all police forces.
The Union Ministry of Home Affairs announced the awards list, which also included 2 President’s Police Medals for Distinguished Service and 14 Police Medals for Meritorious Service for J&K Police personnel.
The recognition underscores the force’s critical role in counter-insurgency operations, internal security, and law-and-order duties in one of India’s most sensitive regions.
In comparison, the CRPF received 20 Gallantry Medals, Uttar Pradesh Police 17, Chhattisgarh Police 14, and Odisha Police 9 — highlighting the extraordinary operational challenges faced by J&K Police.
The awards honor acts of bravery, distinguished service, and meritorious contributions across Police, Fire, Home Guard, Civil Defence, and Correctional Services nationwide.
