Srinagar, Jan 16: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Crime Branch Kashmir has filed a charge sheet in a case of alleged cheating and criminal conspiracy in which a complainant was duped of ₹13 lakh on the false promise of securing an MBBS admission for his son in a medical college in Karnataka.
According to an official statement, the EOW has submitted the charge sheet in FIR No. 10/2024 under Sections 420 and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code before the Court of Sub-Judge, Baramulla. The accused have been identified as Aquib Javeed, son of Mohd Ayoub, and Mohd Ahtesham Ahmad, also son of Mohd Ayoub, both residents of Ring Road, Adarsh Nagar, Gulbarga in Kalaburagi district of Karnataka.
The case stems from a written complaint in which the complainant alleged that he was approached by one Dr Shamsu-Din, working at Al-Amin Medical College, Bijapur, Karnataka. The complainant was assured that his son would be granted MBBS admission through accused Mohammad Aquib Javeed. Acting on this assurance, he paid ₹13 lakh. However, neither was admission provided to his ward nor was the money returned.
Following receipt of the complaint, a detailed investigation was launched by Police Station Economic Offences Wing, Crime Branch Kashmir. During the probe, it emerged that Aquib Javeed, in criminal conspiracy with his brother Mohd Ahtesham Ahmad, had cheated the complainant by falsely promising admission to his son in KBN Medical College, Bijapur.
The investigation established the commission of offences punishable under Sections 420 and 120-B IPC against the accused. Consequently, the charge sheet has been filed before the court in absentia by initiating proceedings under Section 512 of the Criminal Procedure Code, the statement said. (KNC)
