NEW DELHI, Oct 21: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday addressed the nation in a Deepavali letter, highlighting the successes of Operation Sindoor, the fight against Naxalism, and asserting that Bharat has become a symbol of stability amid global crises.
In his message, Modi said the nation has not only upheld righteousness but also avenged injustice through Operation Sindoor, describing it as a living example of the courage to combat wrongdoing. He noted that for the first time, lamps will be lit in many districts, including remote areas, where Naxalism and Maoist terrorism have been eradicated, with former extremists joining the mainstream.
The prime minister also highlighted his government’s historic reforms, including the reduction of Goods and Services Tax (GST) rates, which has resulted in citizens saving thousands of crores during the ‘GST Bachat Utsav’.
Modi urged citizens to adopt swadeshi, promote the spirit of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’, respect all languages, prioritise health, maintain cleanliness, reduce oil in diets by 10%, and embrace yoga—calling these steps essential for progressing towards a Viksit Bharat.
“This is the second Deepavali after the grand construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya,” Modi said, adding that Lord Shri Ram teaches both righteousness and courage against injustice.
He emphasized that citizens’ primary responsibility is to fulfill their duties towards the nation and foster harmony, cooperation, and positivity in society.
Modi also reflected on India’s growing global stature, stating the country is on track to become the third-largest economy in the world and a symbol of stability and sensitivity amid global challenges.
“Deepavali teaches that when one lamp lights another, its light grows further. Let us extend this spirit to society this Deepavali,” the prime minister concluded. (Agencies)
