    Former OpenAI Researcher Launches New EdTech Startup Aimed at Personalizing Learning With AI

    Speaking exclusively to this publication, Karpathy shared the vision behind Eureka Labs is to build personalized AI teaching assistants that support both teachers and students through an individual’s entire learning journey. By modelling these virtual educators after world-renowned subject matter experts like physicist Richard Feynman, students would have an engaging guide always available to help them grasp complex topics.

    According to Karpathy, the goal is to create a “symbiotic relationship” where teachers design high-quality course materials that are then amplified and scaled using AI teaching assistants optimized for guiding learners. He believes this dynamic could power entire curriculums on a shared platform.

    Significantly, Eureka Labs aims to pioneer education technologies that are “AI native” from the ground up rather than retrofitting AI capabilities. As the startup’s founding member explained, this native approach will see generative artificial intelligence serve as a core building block of their envisioned learning ecosystem.

    Before fully rolling out its AI-powered tutoring systems though, Eureka Labs will first debut an introductory online course called LLM101n focused on training neural networks from scratch. This initial offering is viewed as a test bed for piloting their AI teaching methodologies on a smaller scale.
