Ex-army man shot by militants succumbs

Anantnag, Apr 13: A former army man who was shot at by militants in Kulgam district late Sunday evening succumbed to his injuries at a Srinagar hospital on Monday.
The Territorial Army man Abdul Hameed Mantoo alias Cobra, a former-militant-turned-government gunman, served with the 162 Bn. of the Territorial Army before retiring recently.
Mantoo was shot at several times outside his home in Bachroo area of Yaripora in Kulgam district. He was moved to a nearby hospital before being referred to the Government Medical College Hospital in Anantnag.
“Later in the evening, he was shifted again to army’s 92 Base Hospital in Badamibagh cantonment area of Srinagar. He succumbed to his injuries there,” a senior police official said.
In the small hours of Monday, his body came home to a humble gathering for funeral prayers before being buried at an ancestral graveyard.
Mantoo is survived by his wife and is three children, including a teenage son, a teenage daughter and a 6-year-old daughter.
