Digital crime busted: 2 booked for obscene Instagram posts in Jammu

Jammu Tawi: In a major breakthrough in a sensitive cybercrime case involving online blackmail and obscenity, the Police Station CICE Jammu has filed a chargesheet against two accused, including one currently based in Dubai, for creating a fake Instagram profile and harassing a young woman online.

The case (FIR No. 04/2025) was registered on January 31, 2025, after a complaint was received from the mother of the victim, alleging that unknown individuals had created a fake Instagram profile using her daughter’s identity. The culprits had reportedly uploaded pornographic content as the display picture (DP) and had been stalking and harassing her using multiple Instagram IDs by posting obscene material.

Following registration of the case, the investigation was assigned to Inspector Jagdeep Singh, who painstakingly gathered digital and forensic evidence from telecom service providers and social media platforms. Using modern techniques including reverse ILD/IPDR tracing and electronic gadgets, the police managed to trace the accused persons.

The investigation identified the culprits as Kunal Bharti (presently residing in Dubai) and Tirlok Chand Yadav, a resident of Ajmer, Rajasthan. After a detailed probe and examination, the chargesheet was filed on June 5, 2025, before the Hon’ble Court of City Judge Jammu under Section 78 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) read with Section 67 of the IT Act, 2008 (Amended).

The public has lauded the efforts of Inspector Jagdeep Singh for his professional and sensitive handling of the case. He operated under the close supervision of SHO PS CICE Jammu, Dy. SP Sachit Mahajan, and the overall guidance of SSP CICE J&K, Mohd Yaseen Kichloo (IPS).
