CRPF paid tributes to Shaheed Constable Indrajeet Singh who laid down his life while performing his duty in CRPF. He made supreme sacrifice in the service of the nation. CRPF paid tributes to Shaheed Constable Indrajeet Singh and expressed its indebtedness towards his family. Shaheed Constable Indrajeet Singh of 31 Bn, resident of Village Channipret, district Rajouri was deployed in Sri Lanka as a part of the Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF), to perform peacekeeping operations in Sri Lanka. The main task of the IPKF was to disarm the various terrorist groups operating in Sri Lanka including the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and to force an end to the ongoing Sri Lanka Civil War. On May 1, 1989, while CRPF Party was on duty in Vavuniya, a town in the Northern Province of Sri Lanka, and a front line town in the war between the LTTE and the Srilankan Army, the troops were attacked by the LTTE rebels. The troops particularly responded with a heavy barrage of fire and defeated the attempts of the rebels to run over the post. L/NK Sunil Kumar as a senior NCO manoeuvred the troops well but along with Ct Inderjit Singh sustained serious injuries in the attack and made the supreme sacrifice of his life.
