Crackdown against Drug Peddlers in Kishtwar; 2 women among 4 arrested

Doda, Dec 21: The Kishtwar Police has launched an aggressive crackdown across the district against the drug peddlers and recovered various drugs including Charas and tablets. Police have registered FIRs and made four arrests including two women.

A special police officer (SPO) was also booked for his involvement in drug peddling and dismissed from service.

This information was shared today by the Senior Superintendent of Police Kishtwar, Mr. Abrar Chowdhary while addressing media persons. Reiterating the resolve of district police to continue its onslaught against drug abuse and drug peddlers, he said that they had developed credible information of drug delivery among youth and students in various areas in the last few days and accordingly planned raids were made and special nakas were laid at different locations. During these raids, he said that huge quantity of drugs and psychotropic tablets and material were recovered and accused arrested.

The SSP said that during police patrolling in Om Mehta Road area police party headed by inspector Sameer Jillani SHO Police Station Kishtwar, on specific information, intercepted two women and recovered 1 Kg and 800 grams Charas from their possession. They were identified as Gulshana Begum w/o Mohd Yaseen Reshi and  Zahida Begum W/O Mohd Iqbal Reshi both residents of village Dellar, Tehsil Chathroo. The police have registered case FIR No. 268/17 u/s 8/20 NDPS Act in this regard.

In another raid, the police on specific information searched the shop of one Manoj Kumar @ Baba S/O Rikhi Raj R/O Nagni, Kishtwar and recovered 24 strips of TopSpas tablets. An FIR 267 u/s 48 (a) Excise Act has been registered in police station Kishtwar. The police have also identified the medical shop from where he used to get supplies of banned drugs and has recommended the cancellation of their drug licence.

Police laid a naka in Bonsthan area and intercepted one Amit Singh S/O Mastan Singh R/O Dool, Kishtwar, who is also a Special Police Officer (SPO) and has recovered 300 grams of Charas from his possession. He was arrested and an FIR No. 269/2017, u/s 8/20 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Kishtwar and he was dismissed from service.

Chowdhary informed that the drug peddlers have changed their modus operandi and are now using their women accomplices to transport and deliver the drug consignments.

The SSP said that the of drug peddling is even worse than terrorism and police shall continue its campaign till the menace is eradicated from the district completely.
