Coronavirus pandemic: 21-day lockdown begins amid restrictions in JK

Srinagar, Mar 25 : Millions of people across including and remained indoors in wake of the lock down call given by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to prevent the deadly Coronavirus from spreading.
The Jammu and Kashmir district remained sealed today for the seventh straight day with authorities imposing strict curbs under section 144 of CrPC. Besides, the 21-day lockdown from today begun across India and all the roads wore deserted look while the air traffic remained suspended too with government of India suspending the domestic flights.
Police and paramilitary forces were deployed on roads across Jammu and Kashmir to enforce the restrictions imposed by the government. Strict restriction were put in place across Jammu and Kashmir while many of the people especially businessmen were booked by the authorities for violating the government orders.
In Ganderbal district of central Kashmir, at least 14 persons have been arrested by the police and have also seized two vehicles for defying the restriction orders over COVID-19.
Ganderbal Police have arrested four shopkeepers who were found violating the Government orders issued under section 144 CrPC in two separate actions. “Among them two shopkeepers were arrested by PS Safapora and two were arrested by PS Kangan,” officials said.
Cases under relevant sections of law stands registered at concerned police stations and initiated investigation. Handwara Police in north Kashmir's Kupwara district have arrested ten persons for defying prohibitory orders and seized two vehicles in separate actions. Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at concerned police stations and investigation taken up, officials said.
In South Kashmir's Kulgam district, license of a Fair Price shop in Devsar was suspended after he was found violating the government norms.
In Pulwama district, at least four business units were sealed by the authorities for violating the government orders, officials said, adding that four business units in Lassipora area of the district were found violating the orders and have been booked by the authorities.
Besides Valley, the ten districts of Jammu province also remained under strict curbs.
As per reports, all the districts of Jammu province especially the urban areas, remained under strict curbs today. “Strict restriction on movement of all kinds of vehicles expect those of officials from emergency services were put in place whereas people going for purchase of essential commodities from permitted business establishments were only allowed to move.” the officials said.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir police in its efforts to ensure complete lockdown across the Union Territory for safety of people has registered 218 FIR against norm violators.
The FIRs has been registered for defying the orders of lockdown issued by the government aimed to stop or break down the chain of deadly COVID-19, police said in a statement issued here.
In Anantnag, Pulwama, Shopian, Kulgam and Awantipora, Districts of South Kashmr Police has registered 28 FIRs against persons for violating the orders. In central Kashmir's Srinagar, Budgam and Ganderbal Districts police has registered 14 FIRs against such persons. In North Kashmir's Baramulla, Kupwara, Handwara, Sopore, Bandipora district, 27 FIR has been registered against persons for violating the lockdown orders.
In Jammu Samba Kathua range police has registered 50 FIRs against the persons for violating the orders and In Udhampur Reasi range 13 FIRs has been registered against the lockdown violators. Similarly, 21 FIRs has been registered against the persons for violating the orders in Doda Kishtwar Ramban Range. In Rajouri Poonch Range, Police has registered 65 FIRs against the persons violating lockdown orders–

 

  • 11 positive cases with 01 recovery, 5124 under observation in JK

The Government today informed that 5124 travellers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been put under surveillance and, so far, 11 cases tested positive (10 active positive and 01 recovered) in Jammu and Kashmir. According to the daily Media Bulletin on novel coronavirus (COVID-19) 3061 persons have been kept under home quarantine while as 80 are in hospital quarantine. Persons who are under home surveillance stand at 1477 while as 506 persons have completed their 28-day surveillance period. The Bulletin further said that 326 samples have been sent for testing of which 294 tested as negative while as 21 reports are awaited till March 25, 2020.
A day after three persons including a preacher of Tableegi Jamaat tested positive for Covid-19 in J&K, four more persons were tested positive for deadly Covid-19 in Kashmir on Wednesday and all of them belong to Bandipora district of north Kashmir.
“4 more persons, all from Bandipora, tested positive today. Preliminary findings suggest they were close contacts of Srinagar patient who tested positive yesterday. All 5 reported to have participated together in religious event” Tweets Rohit kansal spokesman of J&K government.
The advisory urged public to strictly follow directions of the Prime Minister who has called for complete lockdown in the entire nation for the next 21 days in an effort to contain the COVID-19 Pandemic as it is essential to break the chain of its transmission.“People are therefore appealed to stay in their homes and take the lockdown imposed by Government with utmost sincerity as carelessness
of few can throw us into grave jeopardy, keeping in view the global experiences of countries which have been successful in containing the spread of COVID-19 through implementation of social distancing measures unlike some other countries where thousands of people have died,” reads the advisory. People can call toll free national helpline number 1075 for support, guidance, and response to related queries on Novel Coronavirus Disease (Covid-19). Similarly they can also call Jammu & Kashmir Covid-19 Helpline Numbers 0191-2549676 (UT level Cell), 0191- 2520982, 0191-2674444, 0191-2674115 (For Jammu Division), 0194- 2440283 & 0194-2430581(For Kashmir Division).On the implementation of Social Distancing measures, the advisory said that it is the key to stop and prevent the spread of Covid-19 from those who are infected to those who are not infected. The intervention includes remaining out of crowded settings, avoiding mass gatherings, and maintaining distance (approximately 6 feet or 2 meters) from others. However, there is no need to panic, take care of your health and protect others, says the advisory. Public in general is therefore advised to avoid un-necessary travel and use of public transport; avoid crowded places and large gathering and not to spit in public. People must take basic precautions for personal hygiene; frequent hand washing with soap & water; and observing coughing & sneezing etiquettes. Public is therefore advised to strictly follow the advisories issued by the Government from time to time. People are also urged to rely only on the information released by the government through the daily media bulletin to print & electronic media. Furthermore, people are advised to refrain from spreading rumours and pay no heed to them at the same time.
