Where is a Certificate Course in Takri Mr. VC?
Jammu Tawi, April 19: If someone is so stupid that he enjoys and gets excited at doing someone else's job then come to learn the art from Jammu University Vice Chancellor who has been over enthusiastic over Jammu University having started a Certificate Course in Sharda – the ancient script of many Trans-Himalyan languages including Sanskrit and Kashmiri.
VC Sharma's decision to start a Certificate Course in Sharda Script has raised many eye-brows. People of Jammu since long urged for Jammu University to exist and be developed as an institution of their own at their soil. On the contrary, the Jammu University has always known for its misplaced priorities.
The pertinent question asked within and outside the campus why the Vice Chancellor Mr. R. D. Sharma, a son of soil, has not taken that much interest and similar zeal for introducing such a course in Takri, the script for the local Dogri language.
“Better this certificate course in Sharada should have been started at the Sanskrit Department of Kashmir University for reviving the dying script and training researchers and Sanskrit scholars and taking their help in translations of scripts that has a direct significance on Kashmiri culture and traditions. Similar is required for Takri scrtipt that was used between the 16th and 19th centuries in what are now Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, the Punjab, and Uttarakhand. It was used for writing the Chambeali and Dogri languages, as well as a number of Pahari (Himalayan) languages including Jaunsari and Kulvi,” Commented a faculty member urging not to be named.
