    Build sustainable and safe cities that serve the needs of people: LG Sinha

    Srinagar, Jul 4: and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday called upon the town planners and experts to build sustainable and safe cities which serve the needs of people.

    Addressing the Srinagar Conclave of High-level Committee on Urban planning MoHUA (Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs) , Sinha called upon town Planners, Urban designers and experts to focus on building future-ready cities.
    “Given the extreme events, impact of climate change and unpredictable weather patterns, it is imperative to focus on resilient urban planning for future-proof cities”, the Lt Governor said.
    The two-day long deliberations with all the states and Urban Planners and recommendations will help in formulating the final report of the Committee on reform in urban Planning in the country.
    “Our primary objective is to build sustainable, inclusive, resilient, and safe cities which serve the needs of people and are able to effectively tackle economic, social and climate challenges”, Sinha said and added “we need collective efforts from stakeholders and community to unlock urban potential”.
    ”Our cities are growth engines of the country and also play a key role in fulfilling the dreams and aspirations of the citizens”, he said.
    The Lt Governor said that increasing urbanization reflects the growing aspiration. Urban planning should be able to build sustainable infra and enable residents to prosper, he added.
