Awareness rally organized to mark ‘National Girl Child Day’

Jammu Tawi:  The NSS unit of Government Degree College Paloura organized a door-to-door campaign and a rally to mark the celebration of National Girl Child Day. The initiative aimed to raise awareness about the rights and welfare of the girl child and promote their brighter future.

NSS volunteers, along with NSS Program Officer Dr. Shivani Sharma, interacted with the residents of the adopted village to discuss the various challenges faced by girls, including discrimination, inequality, and societal barriers. They emphasized the need to address critical issues like female foeticide, the declining sex ratio, violence, poverty, and illiteracy, urging the community to create a more inclusive and equitable environment for the girl child. Dr. Kulvinder Kour, Principal of the college, praised the efforts of the NSS volunteers for organizing such a meaningful community outreach program. She stressed the importance of overcoming gender discrimination and how it has hindered the full participation of women and girls in all facets of society. Dr. Kour highlighted that the holistic growth of girls is not only essential for their personal well-being but also for the progress and development of society as a whole.
